Just by searching the word “How to make money on the internet” on Google, you see all sorts of money making headlines like:

Exposed: “How I’m making over $500 daily from My Secret Business”.

“Here’s how I’m making a 5 – Digit figure monthly from my blog. I’ve quit my day job and I’m now my Boss.”

“How I made thousands of dollars within one month selling Information Products”

“How to make $500 within 3 hours daily”

A Hidden Secret: “How I’m making 10,000 monthly through Affiliate Marketing”.

“How I make ₦500,000 every month on the internet”.

“How I Make A Living From Website And Domain Flipping”.

My Wealth Formula Revealed: “Make At Least $500 everyday from fiverr”

I can go on and on. I know you must agree with me especially if you have come across these eyes – catching headlines too but I want warn you, these are all lies and scams that promises overnight riches. Online business is not that rosy, after reading this post you will be well equipped with the rudiments of online business and whether to venture into it or not.

For this reason, it is of key importance that before we go into the nitty gritty of starting online business proper, we must first take a look at the reasons why most online businesses fail and what you can do to prevent yourself from also failing too.

Most people don’t make money from online business in Nigeria due to four main reasons:

1. Lack Of Information

2. Lack Of Preparation

3. Perseverance

4. Poor Advertisement Strategy

Let us take a look at each one of these reasons in greater detail.

1. Lack of information

Having the right information when starting any business is the hallmark of success and online business is not an exception. Making money online is not a piece of cake that you finish at one spot. To succeed you need to have specific knowledge coupled with insider details and information from those who have done it and actually made money not just once but repeatedly.

You need to understand online advertising and marketing, Traffic generation, creating a list of audience, search engines rules and how they can affect your revenues and so on.

Unfortunately, most newbies who venture into this business do not have the complete knowledge about how these things work and what they should or should not do. Many of these people come across partial information from sources like websites and badly written e-books etc but because the information is not complete or partially correct, they end up failing in their venture.

Many of such websites and e-books are created by people who tried the business but failed so they want to make money by tricking newbie’s into thinking that they are “gurus”. Meanwhile all they offer is the same incomplete, irrelevant and sometimes totally wrong information that they themselves could not make money with. A typical example is just by typing the word “How to make money on the internet” – You see numerous headlines promising all sorts of overnight riches at the click of a button. But do need someone to tell you that they are nothing but blatant lies and scams.

For you to succeed, you need to learn from people who have actually done this thing and succeeded. Learn from their experience and valuable insights. The only challenge you might face is how to know who is fake and who is real. But not to worry, at the end of this post you will be in a much better position to distinguish between scammers and genuine gurus.

2. Lack Of Preparation

This mainly has to do with people who learnt about this business for free or who were deceived into thinking that they can make millions overnight by doing little or nothing. When things are not moving as fast as they imagined or were told, they easily give up.

They got the info for free, got a website for free, tried it for a couple of weeks expecting instant results, saw no results, got discouraged and gradually lost their commitment because they had nothing to lose by giving up. But as I always like to say: if setting it up had cost them a million naira, these people would have taken the business much more seriously and shown far more commitment.

In fact this is the exact reason why I chose to charge for my Cash System Business e-book and not give them out for free like the other ones, even though I claim to be trying to help the youths of Nigeria to empower themselves. Charging for the package is to ensure that anybody who buys them must take the business very seriously and show the needed level of commitment.

Online business is full of challenges and I have since realized that people will only show the needed level of seriousness when they have to pay for the e-books because then they will feel that they have something to lose if they do not put in their best. Seriousness, commitment and dedication are the major ingredients that got us to where we are today despite the many failures we experienced so it is critical that anyone who is attempting this online business must view it with the utmost seriousness for him/her to succeed. If someone knows that he has put in money to obtain this information then he will always consider the cost of failure and be motivated to put in his/her very best. Only when you are damn serious about it can you succeed in this business.

3. Perseverance

Present statistics shows that, there are over 1 billion websites and blogs on the internet today and over 200,000 new blogs are created on a daily basis by people like you who want to make money on the internet.

This clearly gives you a picture of how competitive online business has become – one that only the determined and undeterred can survive. So it’s a Survival-Of-The-Fittest game.

Most people are not willing to wait long for money to start flowing in like a waterfall. They start today and expect to see big profits almost immediately. I wouldn’t blame them, the problem is that many of the fake "gurus" give people the impression that they can make money overnight without having to do much at all. Unfortunately it doesn’t work that way. Only in extremely rare cases can this be true but most of the time, it's false.

Making money online is not an easy task. Most times the gains of online business do not come immediately and you may sometimes need to keep working and learning (and sometimes even failing) for up to 6 months or even up to a year, maybe more before you will start seeing big profits. I know you hate the one year part but the good side of it is that once you gather enough experience in the business and start making money, it will get to the point where your monthly income keeps increasing without your direct intervention.

In online business, results can be very volatile and unpredictable especially when you do not already have a proven strategy that works. In my case, it took us about 2 years of failures, anxiety, setbacks, trial and error before I was able to evolve my present methods. Luckily for you, you will not have to go through the same stress because all you need to do now is to learn from me and follow my lead. But this does not mean that you won't fail at least once, twice or even thrice. The trick is not to give up but to try and try again every time you fail.

Although, there are types of online business that can actually get you profits within a short period of time (I didn’t say a few weeks) like Information Marketing which like you know that’s what I’m into and am also equipped with other types of online business, the majority of online businesses typically take between 9 and 12 months before you can expect to start seeing any tangible yields and results. Until then, it’s virtually all sweat with little returns.

The only way you can speed the process up is to spend money on advertising. The bottom line is that you will need to be patient to a very large extent even if your expectations are not met.

Online business has the long term potential to give you revenues many times higher than what you will ever receive as a salary earner. Therefore the earlier you start out on the journey, the better.

4. Poor Advertising Strategy

The major task before every online entrepreneur is to drive traffic. Without a good advertising strategy, your online business is dead because visitors won’t just flow to your blog through magic. If you thought all you need is to post some few articles you copied from another site and sit back expecting the traffic to come, you have been dreaming so you better wake up! You are in for a big disappointment and frustration and this is exactly the reasons behind the high rate of blogs been abandoned by their owners after a few month of creation.

Only when you attract traffic can you make profit from your online business. You blog’s useless if you only get unit count visits daily from your siblings and friends. To make real money and not just crumbs from online business, you need huge traffic. Think thousands to millions. The more traffic you generate, the more income you’ll make.

No business would thrive without customers and online business is not an exception. So generating traffic is like attracting customers.

For you to succeed in online business, you need to cast away all doubts and believe that you can and will succeed. You should not expect too much too soon and don’t set your expectations too high so that you will not get disappointed or discouraged when they are not met on time.

You must believe that you will succeed and expect to succeed. You must set goals for yourself and strive to reach them. Do not expect too much too soon.

You must use the right methods that have been proven to work and you must continue to experiment, refine and seek out information and better methods that will generate the most gains from the least effort.
