A niche is the particular area of market on which a
specific product is focusing. The market niche defines the product features
aimed at satisfying specific market needs, as well as the price range,
production quality and demographics that is intended to impact. For example,
Sport channels like STAR Sports, ESPN, STAR Cricket and fox sport target a
niche of sport lovers. Some niche may become saturated with marketers,
increasing competition and thus reduce the slice of the pie available to each
competitors. One solution is to find smaller, “undiscovered”, but still profitable niches usually by searching the
best keywords to target.
These lower cost keywords are called long – tailed
keywords, as in long tail of secondary keyword phrases that usually follow the
main keyword in popularity of number of searches conducted by internet users.
Because some are so obscure as to have few or no clicks per month, the trick
is
to find the right ones to target.
One of the worst mistakes you can ever make in
online business is to choose the wrong niche or topic for your blog. This one
blunder can delay your success in online business by years and that is if you
would succeed at all. Your choice of a blog topic must be based on two major
factors:
1.
Your
knowledge about the topic and interest in it.
If you blog on a topic that people
are not interested in, your zeal will quickly wipe out when you start facing
discouraging challenges such as low SEO
(Search Engine Ranking) rankings, low audience engagement, low traffic and
so on. These are the harsh realities of blogging which most of these Webmasters
will never tell you. Nothing can keep you going except your knowledge, and your
willingness to share your experience
with others.
Now I am not saying that you must
be a professional on a topic before you can blog on it. (Of course, you can
research and learn extensively about the topic and still share what you have
with others). Don’t blog on a topic because many people are also blogging on it
so you say to yourself “let me follow the crowd” or because you believe you can
make lots of money from it. (You can virtually make money from any topic which
is unique, valuable, error – free and rich with quality content).
This is paramount because you might
be interested in a particular niche or
topic but if you don’t have the technical-know-how and basic rudiments
about it, you better back off. Because you will not be able to impress your
prospects with adequate information they need. It is that driving zeal and
passion you have for that niche that
will keep you going, even when you don’t get the required result you were
expecting.
2. The demand for information on the
topic.
When I say demand I mean the rate
at which people really need the information or services you are offering.
This is very key and determines
your success, not only in online business. Most entrepreneurs and business men
venture into business that the demand is very high and the profit potential is
promising. (More demand= More money).
There is no point going about ranting on a topic that nobody is interested in
or the demand is very low. You will not make money, that is if you even engage
anybody.
Let me give you an instance, you
set up a blog and then you decide to write on a topic like Dog Training because you love the art and want to teach it to
others. You publish loads of valuable posts consistently for several months,
and you adopt various blog promotion tactics that brings traffic. But sadly,
nobody seems to be engaging with the blog. The 3 comments you have on the blog
after 6 months were placed by your close friend, your brother and a visitor.
Frustrating isn’t it? That’s what you get when you blog on a topic that only 0.1%
of your target audience are interested in.
You may be knowledgeable about a
topic. You may have a burning desire to blog on it. And if you’re not eyeing
any profit, you’re free to go ahead without further planning or brainstorming
strategies. But if your aim is to aim to make money from your blog, then you
must choose a topic that many people are interested in.
No matter how keen your interest in
a topic is, you’ll have that interest dampened when you seem to be the only one
involved. It’s like having just 2 people turning up for a speech you’re to
deliver at a venue that was prepared for a 1,000 people.
Well, if you are creating your blog
just to share your personal thoughts, opinion and enjoy the fun of having your
writing online, you may not bother about the topic. In fact, you can pick
topics at random and write on them. But if you are blogging in order to make
some income from it, you just have to choose your topic wisely.

Having stated all the above, let me

attract a Nigerian audience. If you start a blog on any of these topics,
chances are, you’ll start making money within a short period of time, I did not
say a few weeks. Before I roll out my list, please remember that your choice of
a niche must be based on your personal interest as well as demand for the

won’t have a smooth sail if you don’t have a natural interest in them or you
don’t know much about them. Rather,
